Fly On Wall Street

Positive Parenting: Saving and easing stress when traveling as a family

As we get closer to the summer travel season, traveling with the family can allow you to create some amazing memories, but it can also be quite expensive and stressful if you’re not prepared. Here are some tips on how to save and ease stress on your next family vacation.

Whether you’re road-tripping or taking to the skies, Kathy Pahanish with Executive Tour and Travel says there are several ways to save money on your next vacation without sacrificing any fun.

“Look for hotels that offer discounts for breakfast for children, or all meals where the children eat free,” Pahanish said.

Pahanish also suggests booking a hotel or condo with a kitchen so you don’t have to eat out for every meal.

It’s also a good idea to be proactive.

“Make sure that you plan ahead as far as, Are you going to take their stroller? Are you going to take their car seats? Are you going to save money on the other end?’” Pahanish said.

When traveling with young kids, especially in the car, Pahanish says to make sure you have entertainment for them.

“Set up those games so that you can play and interact with them and don’t rely just on the tech. Create some games, some things that you guys can enjoy together,” she said.

If you’re flying, Pahanish suggests booking a flight during the middle of the week when airports tend to be slower.

“We always tell everybody, the No. 1 thing to pack is your patience,” Pahanish said. “Unfortunately, the children don’t know that, so we have to make sure we have games ready for them. We have things for them to do that will keep them busy and entertained.”
