EAST LAKE, FL — For people undergoing cancer treatment, the enormous physical and mental task of fighting for survival leaves little time for anything else.
To help ease physical pain and brighten patients’ days, nearly 300 associates of Xcenda pharmaceuticals company, 4114 Woodlands Parkway, #500, East Lake, held a Relay For Life event to generate awareness, raise money for the American Cancer Society and provide more than 200 cancer patients at the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in Tampa with care kits.
The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge is a short-term residential facility designed to offer housing and support free of charge to any cancer patient who travels to the Tampa Bay area for treatment. Volunteers packaged up the care kits with self-care products, candies and hand-made cards, donated by Xcenda, to help relieve the Hope Lodge residents of the pain and discomfort caused by chemotherapy.
In addition to building the care kits, associates also had the opportunity to participate in a 1-mile walk or run, a 3-mile walk or run or a yoga class. The money raised by runners, walkers and yoga participants will go toward the American Cancer Society. Associates also donated $10 to make a luminaria to honor individuals who died from cancer or support those currently fighting.
