Samsung is stepping things up. The heavily upgraded Galaxy Note 9 will launch surprisingly early this year and now we know Samsung’s plans to push things even further…
In new information attained by prolific Korean site The Bell, we learn Samsung will not only step up the release of the Galaxy Note 9 but the Galaxy S10 and all-new folding Galaxy X as well. The leak also throws in some key hardware info.
Looking at the release dates first, The Bell says Samsung plans to announce the Galaxy S10 as early as January and the Galaxy X in February. CES and MWC are the targets for these respective events, but I expect Samsung will announce just before/just after because the company usually likes the floor to itself.
Furthermore, the implication of two launches so close together is Samsung is prioritising the Galaxy X over what is typically its biggest selling smartphone of the year. That tells you a lot about Samsung’s ambitions for its potentially game-changing foldable smartphone.
The Bell also leaves major takeaways on the hardware of both these devices.
It claims the Galaxy S10 will include the in-display fingerprint reader (now widely expected to debut in the Galaxy Note 9) as well as a 3D facial scanner – Samsung’s answer to FaceID on the iPhone X. Meanwhile, the Galaxy X is expected to feature no less than three 3.5-inch OLED displays which can fold out to create a massive (almost tablet-sized) phone or fold down to leave a device far smaller than most current smartphones.
Both these reports corroborate what we’ve been hearing about these devices so far. Now if the regal codename of the Galaxy Note 9 can live up to its recently leaked feature set then it looks like the next 12 months will be the biggest for Samsung in generations…
