Inflight wifi internet, the dialup of the sky, can be quite expensive for how spotty it often is. If your airline uses Gogo to power their wifi service, do yourself a favor and buy an internet pass before you take off. You’ll save a bundle.
Depending on the flight, Gogo’s prices for internet passes can cost up to $30 for the whole flight, or $40 for a day pass. But here’s a not-so-secret tip people still don’t seem to know about from Twitter user Jasmine Guillory: buy your internet pass before your flight! You can purchase a one-hour pass for only $7 ahead of time, or pick up a 24-hour pass for $19. That prepaid 24-hour pass could save you $21.
The catch is that you have to stick to a single airline with the pass. You can’t start using it on a United flight then move it over to a Delta flight. Also, it’s only good for domestic flights, so don’t bother if you’re flying international. On the up side, you don’t necessarily have to use your pass immediately if you hop on your flight and decide to nap instead. Hold onto your access code and use it on your next flight. You have an entire year to use it before it expires.
If you’re flying domestic a lot, though—like three times a month—you can save even more by purchasing a monthly pass. For $49.95 a month, you can get unlimited Gogo wifi on American, Alaska, Delta, or Virgin America, but you have to stick to the airline you assign the subscription to. So, whatever plan is right for you, hop on the airport’s free wifi and purchase a pass then rather than at 36,000 feet.
