Google finally started the long-awaited Android 9 Pie rollout earlier this month, but it’s very unlikely that you have the latest version of Android on your device. It’s mostly Google devices that have the update so far, but OEMs are being surprisingly forthcoming with update plans this time around. It could be that Project Treble is actually having an effect, and you might have Pie before you know it. Here’s what we know about the update so far.
So far, Google has rolled Android Pie out to the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2XL. Those are all the Google phonesSEEAMAZON_ET_135 See Amazon ET commerce that will get the update. While the Nexus 6P and 5X still have another year of update support, they aren’t getting major OS updates anymore. The Pixel C tablet is also out of major update support.
Motorola
Moto was quick to provide a full update list, but it’s not all good news. No Moto phones have gotten Pie yet, but the company says the following devices are on the list.

- Moto X4
- Moto G6 Plus
- Moto G6
- Moto G6 Play
You might notice that the Moto E5 series is not included. Those budget phones just launched a few weeks ago, but they’re very cheap. Phones like that rarely get major updates, so this isn’t necessarily a surprise.
Samsung
The current leader in Android phone sales has not provided any firm details. Based on its past behavior, we can assume the current-gen Galaxy S9/S9+ and the new Note 9 will be the first to get updates. These phones all launched with Project Treble, so hopefully Samsung can make it happen before the end of the year. The last generation Galaxy S8/S8+ and Note 8 should also get the update, but it’ll take longer. As for Samsung’s budget offerings, that’s anyone’s guess.
HTC
While HTC has all manner of issues these days, it took time out from its downward spiral to provide a comprehensive Pie update list for its phones. HTC promises to update these devices.

Missing from that list is the HTC U Ultra, which launched about 18 months ago. The U11 came out just a few months later, so that’s where HTC is drawing the line.
LG
There’s also been no word from LG on its update plans. It did not participate in the Android P beta, so the company doesn’t even have a head start making updates. The LG G7 Thinq and V30 are sure to get the update, and there’s a strong likelihood the G6 will see Pie after those phones. LG tends to be a little faster than Samsung with updates, but the wait will probably be a few months at least.
Sony
Owners of Sony phones need only look at the OEM’s latest blog post to find out if they’ll get a Pie update. Most of the supported devices are the high-end phones, though. Here’s what Sony plans to update to Android 9.

Yes, Sony makes a lot of phones. These devices are all fairly new, though. Only the most recent generation of budget XA phones will get Pie, but the OTA reaches back to the XZ Premium, which is now two generations old. The other XZ-series phones aren’t included, though.
Huawei
Huawei is also playing it close to the chest. It has started testing builds of Pie in China on some phones, but it won’t confirm an update list. Huawei also doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to updating phones. It’s a safe bet that the P20 and Mate 10 families will get an update, but everything else is a shot in the dark.
Nokia
All of Nokia’s recent phones have been Android One devices, so it’s in a good place. The Nokia 7 Plus was also one of the phones in the Android P beta program. The company hasn’t provided official guidance on which devices will see the update, but “all” is a safe bet. The 2017 and 2018 Android One offers will likely be first in the coming month or two.
OnePlus
Like some other OEMs, OnePlus had a phone in the Android P beta. So, the OnePlus 6 is probably well on its way to getting the final update. OnePlus also intends to update the last few generations of its phones. Here’s the list.

The 5/5T will up next after the OnePlus 6 update, and the 3/3T will follow.
Android Beta Partners
We’ve mentioned a few devices from the Android P beta program, which was a way for Google to show off Project Treble’s modular capabilities. All the following devices were part of the beta and should have a Pie update in the not too distant future, even if the OEMs other devices have a long wait.

Essential Phone
In the case of the Essential Phone, it already got its update on the same day as Pixel phones. That bodes well for other devices in the beta.
