When Microsoft launched its third generation 13.5-inch Surface Laptop just a few months ago, the lowest-end configuration would start at $1000 with a Core i5-1035G7 Ice Lake CPU, 128 GB NVMe SSD, and 8 GB of RAM. Fast-forward to 2020 and now this same configuration can be found for $200 off. Both Best Buy and the official Microsoft store are offering similar Surface Laptop 3 configurations for $800 with the latter store already sold out as of this writing.
There are a few drawbacks to keep in mind about the sale. Firstly, the discounted price applies to the Platinum color model only meaning that the Sandstone, Cobalt Blue, or Matte Black color options will cost an additional $200. Secondly, only the Alcantara version of the laptop will be discounted. Microsoft offers its 13.5-inch Surface Laptop 3 series in both Alcantara and metal options for users who might prefer a more traditional laptop design. Thus, you’ll be stuck with the most drab-looking Alcantara configuration if you want to save a few bills.
