Memorial Day is less than three weeks away, which means summer travel season is here. But with major airlines grounded, 90% of routes cancelled, the cruise industry hemorrhaging, and travel to Europe still banned, the pickings are slim.
On the upside, however, gas is cheap, crowds are down, traffic’s light, and hotel deals abound. With 28 states slowly re-opening and easing shelter-in-place orders, non-essential travel is back throughout most of America. So instead of sacking your summer plans and sulking at home there’s never been a better time to pack your family up in the proverbial Chevy and hit the road on an adventure.
Here are 10 tips to make sure your summer vacation road trip is safe, sane, and life-sustaining.
Assemble A “Corona Road Kit’. My wife and I just traveled for six-weeks on the road and the first thing we put together and packed was our “corona kit” to make sure that we could practice safe hygiene and social distancing wherever we were and in all types of different public environments. This was as much for our own safety as the safety of the people we would come into contact with. Some of the obvious basics include disposable rubber gloves (buy them in bulk), disinfecting wipes, multiple face masks or face coverings, hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol, bleach, and a chemically-resistant spray bottle.
We also brought our Dyson Cyclone vacuum cleaner and air purifier (both with HEPA filters) as well as our own anti-microbial laundry detergent, dish soap, hand soap, and trash bags (all of this disposable hygiene adds up). All of this was packed into a clear, sealed plastic box with wheels so we could easily transport it in and out of wherever we stayed and keep our personal environment clean and sanitized for ourselves as well as the next guests.
